HaloBlk Tesla Model Y Mud Flaps Push Clips Not Fitting? Super Simple Cheap Fix!
First of all, we love the design of these mud flaps. The installation process is very simple, and the build quality is also top-notch. If you are hesitating at all, we would encourage to pull the trigger. The HaloBlk mud flaps for your Tesla Model Y are the real deal and we highly recommend it.
What's the issue then, you may ask?
Well, if you're an enthusiast, and you probably are if you're reading this article, you may have other aftermarket parts on your vehicle such as upgraded Model Y side skirts. Sometimes aftermarket upgrades may interfere with the installation of the HaloBlk mud flaps.
We ran into this issue with the set we installed on our demo 2020 Tesla Model Y. We currently have some gorgeous genuine carbon fiber side skirt extensions installed and it definitely transforms the car significantly. We also had to modify our rear wheel arch trim piece, because we are running a very aggressive BRADA CX1 wheel setup and we wanted to avoid any chance of rubbing.
These extensions stick out a bit more on the two ends after installation and pushes up again the HaloBlk mud flaps just a hair (we're talking about 2mm or so). This is enough for the original pins to no longer fit (they just aren't long or sturdy enough).
The solution was quite simple.
We picked up longer push pins from the local OEM auto parts supply shop. We're in California, so we just went to AutoZone, but you can just bring the original HaloBlk clips to your local shop and ask them for longer clips.
We went with these ones:
We actually tried several and they all work as long as the thickness is the same and the pins are longer. This ensures that the pins will grip properly when installed. If you get ones that are too thin, it won't grip right when pushed in and the mud flaps will simple not install properly at all.
Here's a couple more pictures:
We would provide dimensions for you, but it's much more convenient to just bring one of the original HaloBlk clips to compare in-store. Or simply just buy the ones above. They fit super flush, and extremely snug.
So now, whether your Tesla is bone stock, or heavily modified installing, using these upgraded push pins, you will never have to worry about the mud flaps coming off again.
