HELP! DRL's Not Working On My Audi's Spyder Projector Headlights - QUICK FIX!

01 May 2025

Behold the 2006 Audi A3 Quattro S-Line, a gorgeous car with beautiful body lines that give it a timeless look in a body of a hatchback. This little hot-hatch is not only quick on the streets, but it's quite a looker parked in your driveway.

Well, this wouldn't be an enthusiast site, if we didn't talk about modifications that simply make the car look better and perform better. On the looks side, you can drastically change the front end with our E3Tuning RS3 style front bumper conversion kit. This simple and comprehensive kit will completely change the character of your A3 to give it the aggressively handsome looks of the RS big brother.

However, you're probably here because you just purchased a set of Spyder projector headlights for your Typ 8P generation Audi A3 (2006-2008 model years) and for some reason, everything is working except the daytime running lights (DRLs). This might not be a big deal where you live, and the Spyder headlights are pretty enough that you may have just overlooked the DRL issue.

If you're experiencing this issue, it is likely that you are just one of the early production (2006 models) that didn't have the DRL functionality from the factory. Or possibly it was an option that your vehicle didn't come with during the time of purchase. Whatever the reason, you're here looking for a solution, and thanks to a VERY VERY special customer who took the time to investigate this for us, we are passing along the findings so you can finally put this issue to rest!

We were first made aware of this issue when our wonderful customer informed us that the harness on his vehicle were missing some pin connectors that were there on the Spyder headlight harness.

We were able to get a hold of Spyder tech support and identify that the 3 missing pins were responsible to power the LED lights and correspond to the green and white cables from the Spyder harness. The black cable is the ground.

Armed with this information that the black and white wires from the Spyder light harness powers the accessory LEDs our customer located the existing splices and disconnected them. Then, using some 16-gauge wires and matching splices he extended the connection to his vehicle's power source.

In his case, he spliced into his side marker parking lights on his front bumper. The reason why this customer used this method is because he also did purchase one of our E3Tuning RS3 style front bumper conversion kits and this new bumper doesn't have the side parking lights anyway, so it worked out perfectly. He did suggest that you can probably use a non destructive splice to pull power without losing the side marker lights if you are installing onto a stock 8P Audi A3.

This "hack" did not create any check engine lights or malfunction lights and was a quick and easy solution to get the DRLs up and running.

Cheers to you (you know who you are) for providing us with the instructions as well as pictures to go along with this writeup. We are deeply grateful for customers like yourself. You embody the automotive enthusiast spirit. From all of us here at E3Tuning, we salute you!
